Birthday recap. Plus an engagement!!!

(Cape Santa Maria, Long Island, Bahamas)

Two mondays ago (May 26th), we celebrated my 32nd birthday! And let’s not lie, thirty-two seems kinda scary. It’s halfway to 35, which is mid-thirties. Which is scary.

But I was excited to turn 32. It just felt nice. And boy oh boy was I right!

Before I go too far, let me back up a hair and tell you how the day started.

The morning of my 32nd birthday, Jereme checked us into the Cape Santa Maria Resort for two nights! T-W-O!!!

After living on a boat for two MONTHS, I cannot even begin to explain how awesome a stay in a resort sounded. …hot showers with unlimited water, cold air conditioning, regular flush toilets, and cushy resort beds.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

We were able to check right into our adorable beach bungalow at 9AM (which was pretty much the best news ever since the usual checkin is 3PM…it’s like we got a whole extra day out of it). The little cottage we checked into (bungalow #1) was so adorably quaint and situated right on the beach, which by the way, is one of the prettiest white sand beaches we have seen in all of the Bahamas, I kid you not.

We spent the first half of my birthday taking hot showers and lounging in the cold A/C! I even blow-dried and flat ironed my hair just because I could. And it felt great!

Oh and side note, the resort also offers guests free use of a washer/dryer! Can you believe that? I may or may not have dinghied over a few loads because why wouldn’t I wash all of our sheets and towels from the boat while staying at a resort? ;))

Back to my birthday. ;))

After relaxing in the room for a bit, Jereme made us some fabulous frozen margaritas (yes, we brought our boat blender and tequila to the resort) and then he tricked me out of the cottage and down to the beach by telling me he needed help moving the dinghy. Sneaky guy.

We started walking down the beach and that’s when I turned around to see where he was and he had gotten down on one knee!!!!!!!!!!

TO PROPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^just engaged!!!^^

^^am i the luckiest girl in the world or what? I get to marry this guy!^^

With an insanely gorgeous diamond engagement ring! That he has been hiding on the boat this whole time! Can you believe that???????????? Me either. But it really happened.

:)))))))))))))

And of course I screamed “YES!” …Among other things. Because I couldn’t believe this was really happening, especially here in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. And then I cried, of course.

And then we celebrated with a bottle of champagne in the hotel room.

And skyped our parents and all of our sisters.

And then headed over to the resort’s restaurant for more food and drinks.

And that’s how the best birthday {plus an engagement} happened. It was PERFECT! …The perfect spot. The perfect day. The perfect everything.

image

And then we still had another whole day left at the resort! To relax some more, relish in our engagement excitement, and enjoy the finer things in life…like more hot showers and clean, straight hair! ;)) Oh and I of course found the time to paint my horrid fingernails. Lol. They were looking pretty crappy next to my shiny new ring.

Jereme, thank you for such a wonderful day, amazing memories, and such a truly special engagement. I cannot wait to marry you and spend the rests of our lives together!

Oh and I would hate to leave out the fact that Jereme also got me an extra little birthday present (as if he needed to do anything else after the proposal + resort)! …He bought me a pizza cutter! Hah! For those of you who might recall my little >>meltdown<< over accidentally selling ours way back in October at our big garage sale, you know how awesome this birthday present is and I’m still wondering when and how he found one for sale here in the out islands. ;)) He’s the best!

>>Thanks for visiting LAHOWIND sailing blog! We’d love for you to get to know us and follow our story as we attempt to navigate a whole new world of sailing, as we cruise the Bahamas + Caribbean.

So great to read about this! I got engaged in a similar fashion (minus the sailboat adventure!) and am so happy for you two. Now, if you could add a link to the brand/style of all your cute outfits (sundresses, coverups, etc) that would be awesome 🙂 Keep smiling and enjoy the ride, err sail.

A million happy wishes from the crew of The Red Thread! We, too, had an “engagement sailcation” (as we now refer to our 2-week engagement sailing trip), and seeing the glow on your faces brought back fond memories. CONGRATULATIONS on a very special milestone in your life together…and belated happy birthday, too! ~Jessie

Jereme and Kim! Hi!!!
So I have a confession to make. I don’t think Cole or I realized that when you told us at happy hour that you had just gotten engaged, that it had happened just then! Right there on the beach! I am going to blame the awesome Long Island alcohol on that one.
We should have purchased that round for you!
I’m so glad we got to meet you, I will be living vicariously through you both on your blog and via Cole’s Facebook.
We wish you both the very best!
